The rounded profile removes the square corner where dirt builds up, and the smooth, non-porous surface is easy to clean. During a cove base installation, though, corners, columns and door openings can take extra work. On the job site, the CoRound™ system offers three things. Pre-formed corners, no silicone-filled field cuts. No sealant line required along the wall. No resin or cement to cure.

Where Does the Labor Go in a Cove Base Installation?
With a metal base, each corner, column and door opening can mean a miter cut on site and silicone to close it, and the result depends on the installer’s hand. CoRound has pre-formed pieces for them: joints, 90° inside and outside corners, and end caps.
To begin with, each miter cut can mean measuring, cutting and fitting two pieces. After that, the joint can need silicone and a clean-up of the excess.
So, on a large job, with many columns and doors, those steps can add up. Also, see how stainless steel trim compares in our PVC vs. stainless steel guide.
Which Pieces Come Pre-Formed?
For example, at the floor, the CoR Skirt S of the CoRound Seal line has these pre-formed pieces:
- 3-way internal corner: where two CoR Skirt runs and the vertical CoR 4 meet.
- 2-way internal corner: for two CoR Skirt runs, where there is no vertical cove base.
- 2-way external corner: for columns and outside wall corners.
- Joint: for two CoR Skirt lengths in a straight run.
- End caps, right and left: where a run stops, for example at a door.
The CoR Skirt S Joint also fits the CoR Skirt B; it comes in Pure White 9010 and Sand White 9002 only. For more on the corners, read our guide to sanitary cove base corners.
How Do the Corner Pieces Go In During a Cove Base Installation?
Store the profiles out of direct sunlight and heat before installation. PVC left in the sun can soften and lose its shape.
Then, corner pieces, joints and end caps press or snap into place. Tools: tape measure, level, drill and a cutting tool.
Seal Cap: a cap that covers the fastener holes on the Seal components, so the holes are not left open to collect dirt. Included with the Seal components; also available separately.
Of course, these instructions are general installation advice: the installer chooses the method that suits the job.
Is Silicone Part of a Cove Base Installation?
Silicone is optional: not required for installation. For the CoR Skirt, however, in wet areas, installers can add a thin bead of neutral silicone to help keep water from getting behind the profile.
What Does “No Sealant Line Required Along the Wall” Mean?
On ribbed panels, a metal base usually needs a bead of sealant along the wall: a second step, and exposed sealant can turn dark and attract dirt over time, leaving a dark line between a white wall and a white base. With CoRound, no sealant line is required along the wall.
Moreover, on standard cold storage panels with mesa or wide-rib profiles, the flexible lip follows the ribs. As a result, the flexible lip minimizes gaps along the wall, with no sealant line required.
What Else Keeps a Cove Base Installation Simple?
Installing CoRound is one pass along the wall: fasten the profile and snap in the corners. There is nothing to mix, trowel, weld or cure, and no sealant line is required along the wall.
Who can install it? The panel crew: read our guide to skipping the flooring subcontractor.
Finally, CoRound installs on insulated panels, FRP-covered walls, tile, masonry and drywall.
