Why Does the Wall-Floor Juncture Matter?
Square corners can trap dirt and water, and that is where bacteria can grow. A rounded profile leaves fewer of those spots and makes them easier to wash out.
FDA Food Code §6-201.13 requires floor and wall junctures to be coved and closed to no larger than 1 mm (1/32 inch) where floors are not cleaned by water flushing, and coved and sealed where they are. Check requirements with your local health department.

What Can Go Wrong With Corners Cut on Site?
For example, with a metal base, each corner, column and door opening can mean a miter cut on site and silicone to close it, and the result depends on the installer’s hand. CoRound has pre-formed pieces for them: joints, 90° inside and outside corners, and end caps.
In other words, each corner cut on site can mean one more joint to fill with silicone.
How Do Pre-Formed Sanitary Cove Base Corners Work?
Straight lengths meet at a joint piece, columns take pre-formed outside corners, and each run stops at an end cap at the door: no miter cuts to fill with silicone.
On the job, the straight lengths go on the wall first, and then the pieces follow.
Which Sanitary Cove Base Corners Fit the CoR Skirt?
At the floor, the CoR Skirt S of the CoRound Seal line has these pre-formed pieces:
- 3-way internal corner: where two CoR Skirt runs and the vertical CoR 4 meet.
- 2-way internal corner: for two CoR Skirt runs, where there is no vertical cove base.
- 2-way external corner: for columns and outside wall corners.
- Joint: for two CoR Skirt lengths in a straight run.
- End caps, right and left: where a run stops, for example at a door.

Seal Cap: A cap that covers the fastener holes on the Seal components, so the holes are not left open to collect dirt. Included with the Seal components; also available separately.

What Does “No Sealant Line Required Along the Wall” Mean?
To begin with, exposed sealant can need cleaning and, over time, redoing: each time that means a service call, material and labor. With CoRound, no sealant line is required along the wall.
For example, on standard cold storage panels with mesa or wide-rib profiles, the flexible lip follows the ribs. As a result, the flexible lip minimizes gaps along the wall, with no sealant line required.
Do Installers Add Silicone in Wet Areas?
Silicone is optional: not required for installation. However, for the CoR Skirt, in wet areas, installers can add a thin bead of neutral silicone to help keep water from getting behind the profile.
Also, in a washdown, water runs from the ceiling down the walls to the floor. With CoRound profiles at the ceiling, in the wall corners and at the floor, it meets a curve, not a square corner, at each junction.
How Does a Rigid PVC Cove Base Compare With Rubber or Metal?
The CoR Skirt is a rigid PVC sanitary base. Unlike a rubber base, it can be screwed or riveted to the wall, so it doesn’t have to depend on adhesive. See our rubber cove base comparison.
