The rounded profile removes the square corner where dirt builds up, and the smooth, non-porous surface is easy to clean. A quarry tile cove base rounds off the same corner with tiles and grout. So, this guide compares it with rigid PVC. On the job site, the CoRound™ system offers three things. No resin or cement to cure. No sealant line required along the wall. Pre-formed corners, no silicone-filled field cuts.

What is the difference between a quarry tile cove base and rigid PVC? A tile cove base has grout lines, and grout can hold dirt and moisture. CoRound profiles have a smooth PVC surface with no grout lines. Also, there is no resin or cement to cure. In addition, the panel crew can install the profiles: no separate flooring or welding crew to schedule.

How Do Installers Set a Quarry Tile Cove Base?

With a quarry tile cove base, the tile installer usually sets each cove tile in mortar and then fills the joints with grout. After that, the mortar and the grout both need time to cure.

By comparison, installing CoRound is one pass along the wall: fasten the profile and snap in the corners. There is nothing to mix, trowel, weld or cure, and no sealant line is required along the wall.

What Makes a Tile or PVC Cove Base Easy to Clean?

Of course, both bases round off the corner at the floor. That matters because square corners can trap dirt and water, and that is where bacteria can grow. A rounded profile leaves fewer of those spots and makes them easier to wash out.

In a washdown, water runs from the ceiling down the walls to the floor. With CoRound profiles at the ceiling, in the wall corners and at the floor, it meets a curve, not a square corner, at each junction.

When the CoR Skirt is screwed or riveted, the fasteners sit behind a snap-on cover strip: no exposed screw heads to collect dirt.

What Does a Repair Look Like on a Quarry Tile Cove Base?

With a resin or tile cove, a repair can mean cutting out a section, redoing it and waiting for it to cure.

With CoRound, however, a damaged length can be replaced on its own: the rest of the run stays in place.

Can the Room Stay in Use While CoRound Goes In?

In a room already in operation, CoRound can be installed on the finished floor: there is no floor to redo and nothing to cure.

That is why CoRound also works for renovations. For a full room, read our walk-in cooler renovation guide.

Which Walls Can Take the CoR Skirt?

CoRound installs on insulated panels, FRP-covered walls, tile, masonry and drywall. The CoR Skirt is screwed or riveted to the wall, or bonded with adhesive: installer’s choice. Tools: tape measure, level, drill and a cutting tool.

What Comes in Place of a Tile Cove Base?

At the floor, the CoR Skirt sanitary base does the same job, in two lines. CoRound Basic for cost-sensitive projects; CoRound Seal adds corner pieces and end caps with flexible lips.

CoRound is a system of rigid PVC profiles that rounds off the corners of a room: where the wall meets the floor, where two walls meet, and where the wall meets the ceiling. Between walls and at the ceiling, the CoR 4 cove base snaps onto the CoR 4 Base. Flexible co-extruded lips press against both walls, or the wall and the ceiling, and follow small surface irregularities, closing the junction.

What Does “No Sealant Line Required Along the Wall” Mean?

On ribbed panels, a metal base usually needs a bead of sealant along the wall: a second step, and exposed sealant can turn dark and attract dirt over time, leaving a dark line between a white wall and a white base. With CoRound, no sealant line is required along the wall.

Moreover, on standard cold storage panels with mesa or wide-rib profiles, the flexible lip follows the ribs. As a result, the flexible lip minimizes gaps along the wall, with no sealant line required.

Why Choose a Rigid PVC Cove Base From Panelmart?

  • No resin or cement to cure: there is nothing to mix, trowel, weld or cure.
  • No sealant line required along the wall: one less step on site and, as a result, one less cost that can recur.
  • Pre-formed corners, no silicone-filled field cuts: joints, 90° inside and outside corners, and end caps.
  • One system for the whole room: base track, sanitary base or heavy-duty curb, cove base for wall and ceiling junctions, pre-formed corners, end caps and corner guards, all made to fit together.
