This guide looks at symmetrical insulated panels: what they change for the crew, and what goes in with them. Panelmart sells GlobeWall symmetrical panels and, to round off the corners of the room, the CoRound™ system: the cove base that goes in with the panels. No sealant line required along the wall. Pre-formed corners, no silicone-filled field cuts. No resin or cement to cure.

Why Does Orientation Matter for Insulated Panels?
Some insulated metal panels have a set inside face and a set outside face. With those panels, the crew checks which way each panel goes before it goes up.
In this case, a panel set backward can mean stopping, unfastening it and setting it again. Sorting the panels by face before each lift can take time, too.
How Does the Crew Set Symmetrical Panels?
In contrast, GlobeWall has no set inside face. So the crew can take the next panel from the stack and set it either way.
On large visible walls, however, the crew keeps the same face toward the room, because coils from different production batches can show slight shade differences. Elsewhere, either face works.
As for the joints: tongue-and-groove joints that fit together easily.
How Do Symmetrical Insulated Panels Help With Off-Cuts?
Angled cuts, for example at a gable wall, leave triangular off-cuts. However, with a one-way panel, that off-cut can face the wrong way for the other side of the gable.
With GlobeWall, instead, the crew can flip the off-cut and use it there, except on large visible walls, where the same face stays toward the room. As a result, fewer off-cuts can end up as waste.
Where Does the Time Go on a Panel Job?
In general, on a panel job, time goes into a few steps:
- Sorting: making sure each panel faces the right way before the lift.
- Setting: lifting, placing and fastening the panel.
- Cutting: trimming panels at doors, corners and gables.
- Finishing: closing the junctions at the floor, between walls and at the ceiling.
So, symmetrical panels help with sorting and with off-cuts. The finishing, on the other hand, depends on the cove base you choose.
What Goes In With Symmetrical Insulated Panels?
The CoRound Channel is a U-shaped PVC base track that seats the base of the insulated panels in walk-in coolers and freezers and in food plants. It takes the place of a metal U-channel or angle.
Operating temperature: −4 °F to +140 °F. For colder applications, contact us.
Start with the floor channel, screwed to the floor (silicone underneath is optional), then set the insulated panels for the walls and ceiling. The channel seats the base of the insulated panels; tall panels still need to be braced until they are fastened.
PVC conducts far less heat than metal. Used instead of a metal channel on the edge of insulated panels, it works as a thermal break: less thermal bridging and a lower risk of condensation there.
How Does the Cove Base Go In After the Panels?
The rounded profile removes the square corner where dirt builds up, and the smooth, non-porous surface is easy to clean. Also, the panel crew can install the profiles: no separate flooring or welding crew to schedule.
After the panels, the sequence goes on like this. Fasten the CoR 4 Base supports and snap the CoR 4 onto them. After that, fasten the CoR Skirt to the base of the wall. Finally, press or snap the corner pieces, joints and end caps into place.
Installing CoRound is one pass along the wall: fasten the profile and snap in the corners. There is nothing to mix, trowel, weld or cure, and no sealant line is required along the wall. Of course, these instructions are general installation advice: the installer chooses the method that suits the job.
